Dream of building, flying own airplane comes true for Ionia man By Gloria Garman-Schlaefli Dick Schlaefli, Ionia, has achieved his dream of building and flying his own airplane. It took 15 years to complete, but for Dick being able to now fly his Pietenpol Air Camper was well worth the long wait. Dick developed his love of flying during high school when his three uncles, Ray and Dan Richardson and Jim VanSickle, each had his own airplane and Dick would take frequent rides with them. His interest in flying continued into college and while attending Fort Hays State University, he took lessons and earned his pilot's license. He built model airplanes and did control line flying with them, but hoped some day to be able to fly in his own airplane. Sixteen years ago today there was a terrible ice storm across Kansas. Sixteen years ago today there was also a wedding in the United Methodist Church in Cawker City, Kansas. That's where Plowboy and Plowgirl officially became PlowFamily! I'm glad that life has led us down the path that it has. We have a good life and a great little family. By the time this posts, yesterday was my birthday. And I had a GREAT day! Plowboy took the day off and we (all 3 of us) went to Joplin to have fun. We met some friends for lunch in Pittsburg, then on to Joplin. Plowbaby fell asleep on the way down, so we went to 4States Truck (Chrome Shop Mafia place) to check out some stuff there (Plowbaby slept/then we read library books in the car). Went to Academy Sports and I got some new tenny-runners. Next was our TRUE destination......The House of Bounce. It is a "morton building" that is filled with inflatables (ie. moonwalk type things you jump in!) So my birthday party was at a House of Bounce. We headed back toward home,ate supper at Jim's Steakhouse in Pittsburg, then had to make the obligitory stop at Walmart. When we arrived home, I noticed that "someone broke in" to our house, and left me a beautiful hydrangea plant on the kitchen table. It was Plowboy's mom, and yes, the house was unlocked! All in...
