Diggin' Up Bones

"Diggin' up bones, I'm diggin' up bones, exhumin' things that's better left alone........"

That old Randy Travis song plays over and over in my head as Mark is excavating around the house. It's a good thing we (Viets Brothers and co.) own a number of earth moving machines. In the process, we have had a Cat Challenger, the dozer, the telehandler, and Cousin Larry's backhoe all in the yard at the same time. A virtual lot of yellow equipment.

This is what the house and yard USED to look like.

This is the first "cut"

First day of excavation

I went to town one afternoon, and when I came home, the large Elm tree outside Ainsley's bedroom window was now located out in the front yard. What you can't see in this picture is the Challenger that is hooked to to top of the tree, used to pull it out to it's present location. (Yeah, it's still there! and probably will be for a while)

This is what it looks like after he got done with the telehandler. Not quite down to the footing yet, got about 3 more feet to go.

Dozer time. Time to get serious.

Getting the corners out with the backhoe.

The finished excavation phase

At this point we were waiting on the brick guys to come out and remove the brick from the north and south corners and all of the west wall.

Note: He dug up our water line which had run from the hiway, to the hydrant in the SW corner of the yard, then to the house (underground). Now, it runs from the hiway, to the hydrant, thru a PEX hose, (lying above ground) and into the house, & ties in where it did before. A few days ago, I noticed that my cold water wasn't so cold anymore. Then it dawns on me that our water line is no longer underground at 56 degrees, but laying ON TOP of the ground at 106 degrees!!! Now, you run the water for several minutes to get COLD water, instead of hot.
